HoyBoy started with a typo.
We were booking a Pride trip, went to register a domain, and bought HoyBoySummer.com instead of the name we meant to. The happy accident stuck – and so did the idea behind it: that the best parts of travel usually live in the in-between, in the places you only find when someone who’s been there points the way.
That’s what HoyBoy is. A curated queer travel and lifestyle guide, written by someone who actually lives it – not a directory, not a list of everything, but a trusted edit of the good stuff. Where to stay, where to go out, what’s worth the trip, filtered through a real point of view.
I’m Tom – the person behind HoyBoy. An introverted queer Melbourne local who loves to travel, but knows the feeling: sometimes you don’t quite fit the straight crowd, or the queer crowd, and you’re just left in the in-between. I’ve felt that a lot in my life, and I figure I’m not alone. So I’m making travel guides and resources for my community – lucky enough to be starting in my beautiful Melbourne, with hopes of heading further and further out, and taking you along with me.
We believe in showing up anyway. In taking up space, at any volume. And in travel that’s a little more considered, a little more us.
